cupon bitch vs. Mommie Dearest

Listening to: The cure

So, what exactly is the deal with shopping on the day after thanksgiving? Great deals, sometimes, but three hour long checkout lines?

I got to work at seven am this morning. I spent about twenty minutes looking for a parking spot, then about five minutes trying to push through the crowd at the door.

"S'cuse me, excuse me..." I say as Im trying to get through the line backed up to the doors.

Some lady pushes me back and yells right in my face, "I don't think so missy! I've been waiting for almost twenty minutes trying to buy this here toaster and aint nobody getting in front of me.."

"I'm sorry ma'am, but Im not trying to checkout, I just need to get in, I work here."

"Whatever." And she turns around with attitude.

So I get to the studio, open up and what not. The same lady comes up to the counter and slams her toaster down.

"Im going to pay for this here."

"Sorry ma'am, but I'm not able to check that out for you. We can't ring up merchandise from the store."

She glares at me, taps her nappy fingernails (about two feet long) on the counter, calls me a bitch and walks away.

What a fun filled start to the morning!

Then yet another lady, sometime later that day, comes in for her portraits and would like to use two cupons. Not only does it say that you cannot do that right on her cupons, but I made her apointments and already told her the rules.

She begins to get upset, and starts making a scene.

"This is bullshit, alls you want to do is rip me off. Where the hell do you come up with this shit."

"Ma'am, it is not our personal rules, they are company standards that we must follow. "

"I sure as hell bet there are," she says sarcastically. By now, there are several parents glaring at her, with the little kiddies all around and such. "Fine," she continues," Let me talk to your fucking manager."

"I am the manager," I reply with a lovely grin. "And if you could be careful with your word choice ma'am, I would appreciate it. There are children in the studio."

She laughed and walked away.

Sure made me happy, not to mention the other customers. And the lighter side of that, is the customers in the studio who see people like that, treat us with a little more respect. It happens a couple of times a week usually. People are just amazingly abnoxious at times. I've actually been threatend by a couple of 'Mommy Dearests', as we call them. Threatend! Over little cupon rules! I've even needed to have one escorted out of the studio after she came over the counter and got in my face, and threatend me.

I am always completely calm, curtious and considerate. I am never rude, instead, always understanding. Yet, people still get so perturbed over simple things.

I'm thankful for the a bit more mental people, who make me look just a tad more sane.
